Luke Joeckel and Jake Matthews, together again?
Nah, can't be. Can it?
One former Texas A&M left tackle, Joeckel, was the Jacksonville Jaguars' No. 2 overall pick in last year's draft. The other former Texas A&M left tackle, according to the Twitter feed of Florida Times-Union reporter Ryan O'Halloran, could be in play as the club's No. 3 overall pick next month. Investing back-to-back top-five picks in offensive tackles would be a rare move to say the least, particularly given that only one of them could play on the all-important left side, against most of the NFL's most fearsome pass rushers.
Matthews is regarded as a top-10 talent, and potentially the No. 2 overall pick of the St. Louis Rams. So from a best-player-available standpoint, the son of Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews belongs in the conversation for just about any early first-round pick.
But Jacksonville?
There's a reason Matthews' name hasn't popped up much in speculation about the Jaguars' plans. There are high hopes in Jacksonville for Joeckel, despite a season-ending ankle fracture as a rookie. But that doesn't mean it's an impossible scenario. After all, Joeckel was developed as a right tackle last year before the team traded left tackle Eugene Monroe.
As unlikely as it might seem, it would certainly make for a high-profile bookend tackle pairing in Jacksonville.
