Former Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby was cited Sunday for allegedly operating a vehicle while under the influence, according to a report from WBNS-TV in Columbus. Court documents obtained by the TV station show the incident with Roby occurred April 20, and he has a court date set for Friday.
Officers were dispatched to the scene of the incident on a report of a person passed out behind the wheel of a car, police said, according to WBNS-TV. The report also says police were unable to get the driver's attention when they arrived, but they opened the unlocked door to the vehicle and noticed the odor of alcohol. Police said an officer was called to conduct a field sobriety test, which the driver failed.
Roby, a 5-foot-11, 194-pound defensive back, is NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock's No. 4 cornerback in the draft this year. Roby has seen his stock rise in recent weeks as scouts evaluate him further, and he was slotted as high as the 15th overall pick in one recent NFL.com mock draft.
Roby's agent, Michael Perrett, said he expects the matter to be "resolved quickly and favorably" for Roby in a statement released to the Ohio State sports website Elevenwarriors.com.
"This past weekend my client Bradley Roby was issued a citation in Columbus, Ohio for operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI)," Perrett is quoted as saying in the statement. "Bradley was sitting in his parked car in a parking lot when he was approached and questioned by an officer. He was fully cooperative and willingly submitted to field sobriety and breathalyzer tests. His BAC test registered a negligible .008 and after further testing at the police station, he was very quickly released on his own recognizance. There are no other charges, and we are confident that this matter will be resolved quickly and favorably for Bradley. However, as the matter is still pending, we cannot comment further at this time."
This incident is not the first legal issue for Roby. He was arrested in July of 2013 and charged with disorderly conduct during a bar fight in Indiana. The case was ultimately dismissed after video of the incident surfaced, but he was suspended for the 2013 season opener against Buffalo by head coach Urban Meyer.
Roby is one of 30 prospects invited to attend the draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
