Matt Forte upset with his spot on Top 100 players list

When Matt Forte came in at No. 91 on NFL Media's list of "The Top 100 Players of 2014," Around The League scribe Dan Hanzus openly wondered what the Chicago Bears running back has to do to earn respect from his NFL peers.

As it turns out, Forte is every bit as peeved as Hanzus.

"It's obvious that you guys had Packers fans make the list and that's why I'm so (low) on the list at No. 91," Forte quipped to NFL Media's Lindsay Rhodes on Saturday. "I mean, this would've been cool if I was the first running back taken off of the board in the draft six years ago, but this is terrible."

Forte is right. It's a slap in the face for him to be ranked ninth among NFL running backs.

In addition to a sterling track record across a half-decade, Forte finished the 2013 season second in rushing yards, fourth in yards per carry, third in scrimmage yards, third in receptions and fourth in receiving yards.

"I guess this has nothing to do with stats," Forte continued. "This list is not a list of stats. I guess it's more popularity, maybe?"

Asked which running backs might deserve to be ranked higher, Forte rattled off Adrian Peterson, Jamaal Charles, LeSean McCoy and Marshawn Lynch -- but added "we're all in the same area."

As is the case with most lists, the one voted on by the players offers little value outside of generating debate.
