The woman who said she was attacked by Greg Hardy said the Carolina Panthers pass rusher threw her on a bed covered in guns and "bragged that all of those assault rifles were loaded," according to a motion filed requesting a protective order against him.
The motion was filed Wednesday in Mecklenberg County (N.C.) court. A copy of the motion was posted online by The Charlotte Observer.
Hardy is charged with misdemeanor assault on a female and misdemeanor communicating threats. He was arrested Tuesday and released from jail on bail Wednesday.
Speaking in court, Hardy's lawyer said what happened Tuesday wasn't as investigators described. It was the woman who attacked Hardy and a friend, and it was Hardy who called 911 because the woman wouldn't leave his home, lawyer Chris Fialko said, according to The Observer.
In the protective order request, the woman said Hardy picked her up and threw her into the tile tub area of the bathroom. He then dragged her into the bedroom, choked her, picked her up again and "threw me onto a couch covered in assault rifles and/or shotguns."
"Hardy bragged that all of those assault rifles were loaded," the motion stated.
She said Hardy threatened to shoot her if she went to the media or reported the assault to anyone.
The motion estimated that Hardy had 25 to 30 firearms, including shotguns, rifles and AK-47s. Hardy has a permit to purchase firearms and some of the weapons were permitted but some were not, the motion stated. During a Thursday hearing on the woman's request for the aforementioned protective order, Judge Becky Tin later required Hardy to turn over any or all of his weapons and firearms, per The Observer.
Following the altercation on the couch, the woman said Hardy and another man pushed her out of the apartment and went back inside. She then crawled to the elevator, where she ran into police officers. In a statement obtained by NFL Media, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said they responded to a domestic violence assault call and, when they arrived, a woman told them she had been assaulted and threatened by Hardy.
The Panthers released a statement Tuesday, saying they were "very disappointed to learn of the allegations involving Greg and are concerned for all parties as we continue to investigate."
Hardy is set to make $13.1 million this coming season after signing the franchise tag the Panthers placed on him. The team no longer can rescind the tag, but both sides have until the July 15 deadline for franchise players to reach terms on long-term deals. It's unclear if the arrest will affect those negotiations.
UPDATE: The Associated Press obtained 911 calls from the Charlotte Mecklenberg Police Department on Wednesday night, which paint different pictures of the altercation.
Hardy can be heard on a call saying: "My assistant is trying to restrain her, and she's trying to break free and hit me with her heel. I'm literally running around the table right now." Hardy also alleges that the accuser could be on drugs.
In another call from someone at Hardy's condominium, however, a woman reports that the accuser had been beaten for more than 30 minutes.
