We now know how fast Ohio State's top 2015 draft prospects can run, thanks to Buckeyes recruit Hakeem Bailey. ... Well, we at least know how fast they're purported to be by Ohio State.
Miller tweeted a photo from inside the OSU athletic facility questioning whether quarterback Braxton Miller truly runs a 4.32 40-yard dash -- Miller subsequently challenged Bailey to a race.
Along with Miller's 4.32, the board also indicates a 4.32 for cornerback Doran Grant, who is expected to be among the top cover men available in next year's NFL draft. Grant recorded three interceptions and 10 pass breakups last season playing opposite first-round pick Bradley Roby. In fact, Grant had the better season. Wide receiver Devin Smith, the Buckeyes' leading returning receiver with 44 receptions in 2013, clocks in at 4.33 on Buckeye Time.
One problem.
The times displayed for Ohio State's 2014 draftees don't match up very well with their official NFL Scouting Combine times. Bradley Roby clocked a 4.39 at the combine, one of the most impressive times of the event and one that helped secure his first-round status. But that's still .13 seconds slower than the time he's credited for on Ohio State's speed display. Running back Carlos Hyde? Buckeye Time: 4.43. Combine time: 4.66. That's almost a quarter of a second difference.
Given the discrepancy, we shouldn't necessarily expect Miller and Grant to clock in at 4.32 when the time comes for them to run in Indianapolis. At the 2014 combine, that would have placed them tied for second in the event, regardless of position.
