Offensive tackles Cedric Ogbuehi of Texas A&M and Brandon Scherff of Iowa are two of the most highly-touted linemen in the nation entering the 2014 season, and as seniors, there is no speculation about early entry.
They'll be available, and they'll be coveted.
NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah took to Twitter with an early comparision of the two, favoring Ogbuehi based on film review.
That might be explainable in part because Ogbuehi has 20 fewer pounds to carry around. Scherff is listed at 6-foot-5, 320 pounds, while Ogbuehi checks in at 6-5, 300. Another key difference between the two is that Scherff has two years of experience playing the left tackle spot, while Ogbuehi has none. With the left side being more critical in pass protection, Scherff has the larger body of work at the most critical position on the offensive line. Ogbuehi has moved from guard (sophomore) to right tackle (junior), but will take over the Aggies' left tackle spot beginning this fall. But he's also been in a pass-first offense, while Scherff has operated in a more balanced scheme. TAMU had 114 more pass attempts than did Iowa last year.
Both players had difficult decisions to make last year on whether to turn pro early. Ogbuehi, in fact, said he received a first-round grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board last year.
