The days leading up to the July 4th holiday are supposed to be nice and quiet on the college football front as coaches, players and fans get in a few more weeks of vacation before conference media days kick off the 2014 season.
Things are not so quiet at Oklahoma, however.
Sooners coach Bob Stoops announced former Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham officially joined the Oklahoma football program on Thursday.
"We are pleased to welcome Dorial to the University of Oklahoma, where he is excited to continue his education and resume his playing career," Stoops said. "Dorial understands the privilege and responsibilities of representing the Oklahoma Football program. He is a talented young man who is eager to get to work with the rest of our team in the classroom and on the field."
"I appreciate this opportunity from Coach Stoops and the University of Oklahoma," said Green-Beckham. "There are people here who will help me build a strong foundation. I've disappointed myself and others in the past. I know that I have a lot of work to do and I'm ready to get started. OU is a great program and I feel privileged to be part of it. The university has made the expectations clear and I want to live up to them and be a positive part of the campus and team. I also want to thank Coach Gary Pinkel and the University of Missouri."
Green-Beckham is expected to enroll in classes immediately and can begin team activities, although he won't be eligible play for the Sooners until the 2015 season.
A report by SoonerScoop.com, a Rivals affiliate site, said on Thursday that former Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham was visiting campus and talking with Sooners coaches.
Oklahoma was one of the schools that heavily recruited the former No. 1 overall recruit out of high school but lost out to Missouri, which was closer to his hometown.
While Green-Beckham arrived in Columbia to much fanfare, he struggled to gain traction early on as a true freshman and was involved in several off-the-field incidents. The receiver was dismissed by Tigers head coach Gary Pinkel on April 11 after he allegedly forced his way into an apartment earlier in the month and pushed a young woman down the stairs.
Green-Beckham was also suspended for a game in 2012 after he and several teammates were charged with marijuana possession.
Though the issues are there, Green-Beckham's talent has always made him an intriguing prospect, and at 6-foot-5 with a reported 40-yard dash in the low 4.5 range, a possible NFL draft pick down the road, as well.
