Packers coach Mike McCarthy anticipates Datone Jones making a "huge jump" this season and we project him to "Make the Leap," but nobody's expectations are higher than Green Bay's second-year pass rusher.
"I won't be satisfied until I'm the best in the league," Jones said this week, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "That's the only way I'd be satisfied. Other than that, I still won't be satisfied until I retire."
The first step is more playing time. Last year's 26th overall pick played just 24.2 percent of the Green Bay's defensive snaps because of a nagging high-ankle sprain suffered in the preseason.
"Two snaps per game, 13 percent of the snaps on the year," said Jones, a tad off on his totals. "That's what you get, 3.5 sacks in a season. Playing more, who knows what could happen?"
Jones is expected to line up across from fellow end and "leap" candidate Mike Daniels on passing downs after doing so for much of the spring, per the newspaper. Green Bay's young quarterback chasers also will team with veteran Julius Peppers, who should be of aid as Jones works on his hand technique and the development of a second move at the line.
Around The League's Chris Wesseling tabbed Jones to double his rookie sack total, but the former UCLA star continues to want more.
"Even if I have a great All-Pro year," Jones said, "I still won't be satisfied."
