Marcus Lattimore's return to the field is on hold.
The San Francisco 49ers running back will begin training camp later this month on the team's non-football injury list, according to Thursday's official transaction report.
Lattimore said in February that he was close to 100 percent on the heels of back-to-back devastating knee injuries in 2011 and 2012 at South Carolina.
Niners coach Jim Harbaugh expressed hope over the runner's elongated rehab, but Lattimore will continue to watch from afar as rookie back Carlos Hyde challenges veteran Frank Gore for snaps in San Francisco's run-heavy attack.
As we discussed on our post-draft edition of the "Around The League Podcast," the selection of Hyde was potentially an indication that team brass aren't entirely convinced of Lattimore's progress.
His comeback has been an inspiration to teammates, but Lattimore will need to get on the field sooner than later to remain in the 49ers' plans.
The latest "Around The League Podcast" bangs the table for Cordarrelle Patterson and predicts which stars will soon descend.
