DALLAS -- Star defensive end Devonte Fields has been separated from TCU until an investigation into disturbing allegations against him is settled.
Fields is being investigated by police following an incident on Sunday in which his ex-girlfriend accused him of pointing a gun at her, threatening her and then punching her in the head, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
TCU announced in a statement Tuesday that Fields has been separated from the university pending results of the investigation into the allegations.
Haley Brown, Fields' ex-girlfriend, reportedly told police Fields had apparently been standing outside a bedroom window listening to a conversation she was having with a mutual male friend. Brown told police Fields then punched out the window of their friend's bedroom from the outside and started to yell at her.
"Haley (Brown) stated that she thought Devonte was holding a gun in one of his hands and stated that he pointed it at her," the police report obtained by the Star-Telegram states.
"I should blast you!" Fields then allegedly yelled at Brown, according to the report.
The report also said that Fields continued to yell at Brown before punching her in the face, "one time with a closed fist."
A Fort Worth Police report stated that the Horned Frogs star left the scene of the incident before officers arrived, per the Star-Telegram.
This isn't the first disturbing incident that has involved Fields during his time in Fort Worth. He was suspended for two games as a sophomore last year for an unspecified violation of team rules. This past January, the defensive end was beaten, robbed and shot at in an incident that occurred not too far from his off-campus apartment.
At Big 12 Media Days on Monday, a day before the Star-Telegram published its report, TCU head coach Gary Patterson downplayed the potential impact Fields could make for the team in 2014 coming off a serious foot injury and off-the-field troubles.
Fields was selected as the 2014 Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the media last week, and he won the Big 12 Defensive P.O.Y. as a true freshman following the 2012 season, when he racked up 10 sacks in his first year on campus.
"I was kind of surprised Devonte Fields was (the pick) because he hadn't played a year ago," Patterson said on Monday. "We were still one of the top two defenses over two years without him. If he's able to play and do the things he needs to do, then obviously I think we'll have a chance to be better."
