Nebraska coach Bo Pelini talked some Monday at Big Ten Media Days about how he is "pretty laid back off the field and away from my job," but he showed some of his on-field intensity Tuesday at the event when talking about a potential transfer.
Washington wide receiver Damore'ea Stringfellow, a projected starter for the Huskies, decided to transfer in May after being suspended for spring practice for his role in a post-Super Bowl incident in Seattle. Stringfellow announced that he was transferring to Nebraska, going so far as to sign non-binding papers indicating such, then abruptly ended up enrolling at Ole Miss.
"Read between the lines," Pelini told reporters Tuesday. "I think we all know what happened in that situation."
Pelini then was asked if parents making decisions for their kids on colleges was frustrating.
"Yeah," he said. "And especially when it's a clueless parent."
Stringfellow (6-foot-3, 229 pounds) and projected Huskies starting quarterback Cyler Miles were investigated by police for their role in two assaults the night the Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII. No charges were filed against Miles, but Stringfellow was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault and one count of malicious mischief. Stringfellow reached a plea agreement in which he was sentenced to five days on a work crew, fined $693 and ordered to attend anger-management counseling.
Stringfellow, a Los Angeles-area native who had 20 receptions for 259 yards and one touchdown as a true freshman in 2013, will sit out this season and be eligible as a sophomore in 2015. He was a national top-75 prospect out of high school and a consensus top-10 wide receiver.
