Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall told the Around The League Podcast in January that his 2014 campaign would be "something you guys never seen before."
As it turns out, Marshall was just getting started with the bold predictions.
Asked what we'll see from Jay Cutler, the Pro Bowl wideout told NFL Media's Michael Irvin on Wednesday that Chicago's starting quarterback will be named this year's league MVP.
"He's the first one in the building, last one to leave now, his leadership is through the roof," Marshall said on Wednesday's edition of Inside Training Camp Live. "He's correcting the coaches. This is his offense. This is his organization, he's running it, and I love it."
Do we buy it?
Marshall is stretching reality here.
Cutler is bound to post his strongest season yet in a pass-happy attack that finished fifth in the NFL last season with 268 yards per game through the air.
Another year under Marc Trestman should also reduce some of the mind-numbing interceptions, but Cutler has never shown the brand of precise play that make Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees shoo-ins for the annual award circuit.
While Marshall and Alshon Jeffery give Cutler an elite receiving duo, the biggest concern for the veteran is an obvious one: He hasn't played a complete season in half a decade due to a laundry list of injuries.
We need to see a full season from Cutler and more consistent play before buying into Marshall's crystal ball.
