Reports of Dwayne Bowe's training camp performance have been a mixed bag.
The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver has said he was in the best shape of his career and started out strong, but recent reports have noted he has dropped a number of passes.
Coach Andy Reid revealed Thursday why those dropped passes might have occurred.
"His finger is shot," Reid said, per ESPN.com. "It's been thrown out of place about 15 times, and he's not catching the ball. But he's getting his work done. You can practice with that type of thing."
Reid didn't elaborate on how long Bowe has had the injury or if he expects the receiver to deal with it the entire season.
The 29-year-old Bowe hasn't missed practice at training camp and played in last week's preseason opener -- one catch for 10 yards. Reid didn't name the pass-catcher as a player who would miss Sunday night's preseason tussle with the Carolina Panthers.
Bowe has been mostly a disappointment since signing a five-year, $56 million contract last offseason. A finger injury won't help him improve on his near-career low stat line of 57 catches for 673 yards and five touchdowns in 2013.
UPDATE: It was learned later Friday that Bowe will be suspended for the first game of the regular season stemming from a marijuana-related arrest last year.
