Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston joined the fight against ALS by taking his turn with the ice bucket challenge, and in so doing, called on his own head coach to do the same.
The challenge has swept the nation with popularity in raising awareness and research funds for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Participants can either make a donation to ALS, or dump a bucket of ice water on themselves, then challenge one or more others to do the same within 24 hours.
Winston challenged FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher, teammate and star cornerback P.J. Williams, and Buffalo Bills quarterback E.J. Manuel:
Fisher, of course, is somewhat used to this kind of thing, so with a new contract paying him $4.2 million a year, his participation might be better served by just scratching a big check for the cause. Reportedly, ALS donations have received a huge spike recently as a result of the challenge.
In recent weeks, some of the most prominent names in sports have participated, including NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
