Teams in desperate need of a backup quarterback will have an intriguing option this weekend.
The Seattle Seahawks have released Terrelle Pryor, the team announced.
The transaction leaves Seattle with Tarvaris Jackson and B.J. Daniels behind starter Russell Wilson. Daniels might still be on the roster bubble.
Pryor had made offseason progress and provided a few spectacular moments in the preseason, but the Seahawks just don't have the roster space to keep him.
He finished the month completing 21 of 39 passes for 281 yards (7.2 yards per attempt), a touchdown and two interceptions, adding 97 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Pryor, 25, offers rare athletic gifts, but has struggled with decision-making, timing and accuracy. In other words, he remains a work in progress as a passer.
Perhaps the St. Louis Rams or Buffalo Bills will give him a shot at winning a vacant backup job. Alternatively, the San Francisco 49ers could continue to swap castoffs with the Seahawks.
