The mysterious addition of 53 yards to the college career total of former USC quarterback Matt Barkley has pushed Oregon State senior Sean Mannion a bit further from becoming the most prolific passer in Pac-12 history.
The conference has corrected a book-keeping error that has adjusted Barkley's career passing yardage from 12,274 yards to 12,327, according to The Oregonian. But with the Beavers off to a 3-0 start this season and Mannion just 988 yards off the mark, it's probably only a matter of time before Barkley's Pac-12 record falls, anyway. The report initially stated that the Pac-12 subtracted yardage from Barkley's total, but has since been updated with a correction.
Mannion has 11,339 career passing yards, and as much as the Beavers like to throw (Mannion is averaging nearly 40 pass attempts per game), he should break the record within a month or so as long as he stays healthy. Mannion won the accuracy challenge at the Manning Passing Academy in July, and NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks said at the time that Mannion could be the most pro-ready quarterback in the college game.
Mannion currently ranks third on the Pac-12's all-time passing list -- former USC quarterback Carson Palmer ranks second with 11,818 career yards. Mannion's pursuit of the two former Trojans ahead of him will resume Saturday in front of a USC home crowd as Oregon State visits the Trojans this weekend.
