Dak Prescott's days at Mississippi State could be numbered.
The star quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate said he would leave MSU early and enter the 2015 NFL Draft if he's projected as a first-round pick, according to Sports Illustrated.
"One of the worst things is not going, getting injured and hurting your situation," Prescott said. "I wouldn't risk it if I had a chance to go in the first round. I'm graduating college, and my time here will be done, I'll do exactly what I wanted to do."
Prescott, a fourth-year junior, is in his first full season as a starter. But after acquiring significant experience last year while splitting time with then-senior Tyler Russell, Prescott has emerged as one of college football's most intriguing pro prospects. Although all sorts of sources -- coaches, family, and potential agents -- will have advice for Prescott about when he might be chosen in the 2015 draft, the official feedback from the NFL would come from the NFL Draft Advisory Board. The NFLDAB provides feedback to underclassmen across the nation about their draft status, although the board's procedures will be different beginning this year.
Said Prescott: "When the time came and there's an option, first, second or third round and I had the season I wanted to have, I'd go. ... If they're saying first-round pick, of course my family could use (the money). It's a dream come true."
Prescott has led the undefeated Bulldogs to the top spot in the CFB 24/7 Top 25 Power Rankings and helps give the team its best chance to win an SEC title in coach Dan Mullen's six seasons at the school.
Mullen, for his part, expects to have the dynamic dual-threat passer back for next season.
"I'd be shocked, but you never know," he said.
Prescott has completed 96 of 156 passes this year (61.5 percent) for 1,478 yards with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions. If the Bulldogs win the SEC title, Prescott could find himself in the inaugural College Football Playoff in January. But a decision on his NFL future, he said, won't come until after the season ends.
