Bears coach Marc Trestman on Monday shot down the notion of a rift between quarterback Jay Cutler and wide receiver Brandon Marshall.
Responding to reports that Marshall called out Cutler among other teammates in the locker room after Sunday's 27-14 loss to the Dolphins, Trestman labeled the Bears a unified front.
"I think our team is very much together," Trestman told reporters on Monday. "This is a very close football team. I think what people get caught up in is the emotions that happen after a game. In 20 years of NFL locker rooms, what goes on in a locker room after a game, is a lot of things can go on, because people handle winning and losing differently."
Said Trestman: "We allow players to -- we're not judgmental about players expressing themselves. We know that people care about this football team. Some do it quietly. When you lose, some have a smile on their face. There's those that get terribly angry and have to relieve that anger coming down from a game. We don't make any more out of it."
The Chicago Tribune reported that a voice sounding like Marshall's could be heard dressing down his teammates in the locker room on Sunday before the media was allowed in. A source told ESPN.com's Michael C. Wright that Marshall specifically called out Cutler.
Once scribes descended, Marshall openly acknowledged frustration with the "unacceptable" offense, but went out of his way to call Cutler a "gunslinger, "our guy" and "our leader."
Trestman emphasized that his quarterback and star wideout are in a good place:
"As I said last week, the last couple weeks. I said it in here, the dialogue they've had in meetings, and on the field, and you could notice it, I don't see that at all," Trestman said of a potential conflict. "They've been around each other for a long time. I think there's a brotherly love involved in their relationship. That's the way I see it."
