No. 2-ranked Mississippi State received a bit of a scare Saturday, but running back Josh Robinson put the real fear in Kentucky's defense.
The junior rushed for 198 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns as the Bulldogs survived a 45-31 road win that was closer than the final score indicated. MSU TE Christian Holmes returned an onside kick for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter after Robinson's 73-yard touchdown run earlier in the quarter helped give the Bulldogs some much-needed breathing room.
The 73-yarder might have been Robinson's longest and most impactful run, but it most definitely wasn't his best of the day. That distinction goes to this scamper that featured seven broken tackles. Not surprisingly, it was Kentucky defensive end Bud Dupree, an NFL draft prospect and one of the best athletes on the field Saturday, who finally corralled Robinson:
Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott completed 18 of 33 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown, adding 88 yards and two more scores on the ground for the Bulldogs (7-0).
Kentucky quarterback Patrick Towles kept the Wildcats close in the face of a fierce MSU pass rush, completing 24 of 43 passes for 390 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed for 76 yards and two more scores. NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt was complimentary of Towles regarding the sophomore's future in the sport.
