Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns Saturday, his sixth consecutive 100-yard game and his third game in a row with at least two touchdowns, as the Badgers thrashed host Rutgers 37-0.
Gordon went into the weekend as the nation's No. 2 rusher at 166.9 yards per game, and his streak of 100-yard games is the second-longest in the nation; Indiana's Telvin Coleman had seven in a row going into Saturday's contest with Michigan.
Gordon did his damage on 19 carries; that snapped his streak of four consecutive games with at least 22 carries.
He appeared to injure his knee in the fourth quarter, but after the game, coach Gary Andersen indicated the star running back is fine.
Gordon has rushed for 1,296 yards and 18 touchdowns in eight games this season; he's on a pace to finish with 2,106 yards in 13 games (the single-season school record is 2,109 by Ron Dayne in 1996).
Gordon scored on a 13-yard run in the first quarter and a 51-yarder in the third quarter; the 51-yarder (see below) came on his first carry of the second half.
An AFC team executive recently told NFL Media analysts that Gordon "is better than any of the runners from the last draft class."
Wisconsin's defense was tremendous, limiting Rutgers to 139 total yards. The quarterback play on both sides was bad; four quarterbacks saw time -- two for each team -- and they combined to go 15-of-47 for 150 yards through the air.
The win -- improving Wisconsin to 6-2 on the season -- also extended the Big Ten's longest active bowl streak to 13 straight seasons.
