Coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday the NFL had yet to notify the San Francisco 49ers about whether Aldon Smith will be reinstated early from his nine-game suspension for violations of the league's policies on substance abuse and personal conduct.
Despite ongoing speculation that Smith would indeed have his sentence reduced, he will serve the full suspension.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports, via two sources involved with the outside linebacker's situation, Smith will not be reinstated this week.
The 49ers held the St. Louis Rams to 13 points in last week's loss despite the absence of three All-Pro linebackers in Smith, Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman.
It now seems likely that Willis will beat Smith back to action for this week's game at the New Orleans Saints.
Smith is poised to make his 2014 debut in Week 11 at the New York Giants.
