Injuries: Sammy Watkins, Fred Jackson questionable

Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone is backpedaling slightly from his Thursday comments that Fred Jackson is "not ready" for game action just yet.

Speaking to WGR-AM on Friday morning, Marrone said a decision hasn't yet been made on the veteran running back's availability for Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

"He's progressing. He's not 100 percent yet," said Marrone, per the team's official website. "So we'll see how it goes the next couple of days. We haven't made a decision either way."

Jackson officially was listed as questionable for Sunday's game, along with rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who suffered a groin injury during Wednesday's practice. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier this week that Watkins' injury was believed to be minor, but the wideout missed practice on Thursday and Friday.

"I don't know. That's the coach's decision whether I should play," Watkins said Friday, per WGR-AM's Joe Buscaglia. "It's a long season."

Jackson suffered a groin injury in Week 7 and returned to practice on a limited basis this week. While Marrone left the door open, it's more likely -- with a division tussle against the Miami Dolphins next Thursday night on NFL Network -- the Bills hold him out at least one more game.

If, in fact, Jackson sits again, plodding Anthony Dixon is expected to carry the load with Bryce Brown and Phillip Tanner also receiving snaps.

Some other injuries we are tracking on Friday:

  1. The Saints announced that running back Mark Ingram (shoulder), center Jonathan Goodwin (knee/ankle), offensive tackle Zach Strief (chest) and receiver Robert Meachem (ankle) are questionable for Sunday, while running back Pierre Thomas (rib/shoudler), fellow rusher Khiry Robinson (arm) and linebacker David Hawthorne (hand) are out.
  1. Tony Romo practiced for a second consecutive day, and officially was listed as probable on Dallas' injury report. It's looking more and more like he'll play Sunday for the Cowboys in London.

Rolando McClain's status against the Jaguars is less clear. The linebacker is questionable as he battles knee and groin injuries. Defensive end Tyrone Crawford won't play and was listed as out, as he is still recovering from a knee injury.

  1. San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh announced that linebacker Patrick Willis (toe) was listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.

Niners cornerback Tramaine Brock (toe) and wide receiver Brandon Lloyd (hamstring) were also listed as questionable for Sunday's tilt.

  1. The Jaguars announced rookie quarterback Blake Bortles (left wrist), running back Jordan Todman (quad), Cecil Shorts III (hamstring) and Marqise Lee (ankle) were all designated as probable for Sunday.
  1. Rapoport reported that Geno Atkins sustained a slight hyperextension of his surgically repaired knee on Thursday night, but the injury is minor, per a source who's spoken to the Bengals' defensive tackle.
  1. Lions coach Jim Caldwell said Friday that defensive tackle Nick Fairley will not need surgery on his injured knee, per the team website. Fairley got hurt during Week 8's London game against the Falcons.
  1. After being inactive in Week 9 due to a shoulder injury, Geno Smith is expected to be the Jets' No. 2 signal-caller behind Michael Vick, Jets coach Rex Ryan said Friday.
  1. A pair of Packers offensive linemen were both marked down as questionable: T.J. Lang (ankle) and Josh Sitton (toe).
  1. Bears tight end Martellus Bennett didn't practice Friday and is questionable for Sunday.
  1. Cue up another Andre Williams start: The New York Giantslisted running back Rashad Jennings as doubtful. Defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins, cornerback Zack Bowman and Mathias Kiwanuka are all questionable.
  1. The Falcons listed wideout Harry Douglas and running back Antone Smithas questionable.
  1. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, -- their Week 10 opponent -- declared running back Doug Martin and cornerback Alterraun Verner doubtful for Sunday's action. Receiver Vincent Jackson, linebacker Lavonte David, tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, defensive end Michael Johnson and RB Charles Sims were listed as questionable for the Bucs.
  1. As expected, the Steelers will be without safety Troy Polamalu (knee) and linebacker Ryan Shazier (ankle) against the Jets.
  1. Titans wide receiver Nate Washington (shoulder) is questionable.
  1. The Cardinals will still be without listed linebacker and Desmond Bishop (hamstring) and running back Stepfan Taylor (calf), as both are out.
  1. Seattle safety Kam Chancellor (groin) and guard James Carpenter (ankle) are both doubtful for Sunday's game. Byron Maxwell (calf) might be back in the lineup. The Seahawks listed the cornerback as questionable.
  1. The Dolphins hope Lamar Miller can go Sunday; he's questionable with a shoulder injury. Rapoport reported earlier in the week that the starting running back suffered an AC joint sprain.
