Cam Newtonremains on track to start Sunday when the Carolina Panthershost the Cleveland Browns.
The quarterback is officially listed as probable, but coach Ron Rivera wouldn't name a starting quarterback.
"We'll have a good feel tomorrow," Rivera said Friday, but added: "We feel very confident.''
Barring a setback, expect Newton to get the start after just missing one game following a rollover car accident last week, in which he suffered two fractures to the transverse process in his back.
"It adds another dimension," Rivera said of Newton possibly returning. "What Cam does is bring that extra dimension and ability to run.''
How much the Panthers allow Newton to run and his comfort in the pocket will be something to watch for Sunday. Prior to the injury, the quarterback played his best game of the season against the New Orleans Saints, mixing in some runs with on-the-mark passes.
With Carolina still alive for a playoff spot at 5-8-1, the Panthers want their star quarterback leading the way.
