With his team preparing for a date with Oregon in the Rose Bowl, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said Monday that the decision to clear Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston in his school code-of-conduct hearing was "a relief," especially for Winston.
Winston's attorney tweeted Sunday that Winston would not be charged in the case.
"I feel very happy for him and his family, and the people involved. I'm just very happy for them," Fisher told reporters following FSU's final pre-Christmas practice.
News broke Sunday that Winston had been cleared in the hearing, though the finding can be appealed. He and the Seminoles meet Oregon in the Jan. 1 Rose Bowl, which is a playoff semifinal this season. Winston will be throwing against a Ducks secondary that will be missing its best player, as cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu has been lost for the rest of the season.
Also still to come is a decision from Winston on whether he will remain in school. NFL Media analyst Charles Davis wrote that Winston should stay in school, but Fisher said last week that he thought Winston would be one of the top two players selected in the 2015 draft should he leave school.
