Jeff Garcia wants to help turn Colin Kaepernick around.
The former 49ers' quarterback and current NFL coaching hopeful told CSN Bay Area this week that he would welcome the opportunity to supplement Kaepernick's offseason program, which apparently already contains work with a throwing coach.
"As somebody who played the position for a long time and didn't fit the stereotype, who had to overcome the odds and battle, not just on a yearly basis but a daily basis just to prove himself, I know a lot of what it takes in order to achieve at that position," Garcia said, via CSNBayArea.com. "And I'd be more than happy to help him out any way I can.
"If he's open to it, hey, I'd love nothing more than to be someone who can help him continue to grow."
Garcia's resume includes work with Matt McGloin, Tyrod Taylor and Mark Sanchez, among a bevy of high school and college-aged quarterbacks. He also had a brief stint in Canada as a coach in the CFL.
Rounding out Kaepernick's game would certainly boost Garcia's credentials and pave the way for a NFL head-coaching job, though it's unlikely Kaepernick wants too many cooks in the kitchen this offseason.
This might be the most important offseason of Kaepernick's career with all his doubters circling and a new head coach likely on the way. Whoever ends up helping with his mechanics will have plenty of pressure on his shoulders.
