Duron Carter courted by Colts, Vikings, Browns, others

The Colts are closing in on another tantalizing young wide receiver.

The Indianapolis Star reported Sunday that the team remains a front runner to sign Duron Carter, the son of Hall of Fame wideout Cris Carter.

The talented CFL standout reportedly has whittled his choice down to a pair of finalists after also being courted by the Vikings, Panthers, Chiefs and Browns.

The Star noted that Carter -- who can't sign with a team until Feb. 10 -- is gravitating toward the Colts because of the presence of quarterback Andrew Luck and a passing attack that offers wideouts a genuine shot to put up big numbers. Carter has dealt with off-the-field problems during his college and pro runs, but his 1,939 receiving yards over two CFL seasons have NFL teams intrigued.

With Hakeem Nicks set to enter free agency and Reggie Waynefacing potential retirement, the Colts need to add a young playmaker across from the explosive T.Y. Hilton.

We refuse to get overly excited about Carter -- a project player with issues -- but signing him would help the Colts get their offseason started on a promising note.
