Zach Mettenberger confident he'd beat out top pick QB

The Titans own the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. You don't have to be a Mayock-like wizard of the event to understand Tennessee will have an opportunity to select either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota, the cream of the quarterback class.

The question is whether the Titans will go that route. Zach Mettenberger, a sixth-round pick a year ago, could end up being the team's starter on opening day. If the Titans do use the second pick on a passer, Mettenberger welcomes the challenge.

"They are obviously very talented guys," he told WGFX-FM in Nashville (via ESPN.com). " ... If they were here I think they would say the same thing: If we had to compete out there, I think I'd beat them out."

Taylor Lewan, Tennessee's first pick in last year's draft, likes Mettenberger's comments about winning the job.

"I think any person that doesn't say that is not going to be successful," the offensive tackle said. "There are only so many positions in the NFL you can be a part of. If another guy comes in that's a first-round pick or a second-round pick or a higher pick than you were, you either fold it up or you can take that adversity and thrive with it."

The Titans are a first-round wild card. If they don't draft a quarterback, there's definitely the possibility a QB-desperate team makes an offer general manager Ruston Webster can't refuse.
