The Jaguars are bidding farewell to cornerback Will Blackmon.
The team on Thursday released the nine-year veteran, opening up $920,000 in cap room for a front office primed to be active on the open market come March 10. Jacksonville is sitting on roughly $65 million in cap space.
Blackmon's release comes as little surprise. He missed the final eight games of last season with a fractured finger after playing in 23 tilts for the Jaguars over the past two campaigns. Following previous stops with the Packers and Giants, Blackmon has a shot to wind up elsewhere as a camp body if he plans to continue his career.
In his place, the Jaguars are expected to lean on Aaron Colvin. Last year's fourth-round pick missed 11 games with the torn ACL he suffered at the Senior Bowl, but rebounded to make six appearances down the stretch. Look for Colvin to team with Demetrius McCray at the corner positions alongside nickel man Dwayne Gratz.
