Peyton Manning agreed to a $4 million pay cut to set up his return to the Broncos in 2015. That doesn't mean the quarterback can't get that money back.
NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Wednesday that Manning's new deal includes a $2 million incentive if the Broncos win the AFC Championship Game and an additional $2 million if Denver wins Super Bowl 50. Manning's $19 million base salary in 2016 will remain intact, according to a source. The veteran passed his physical on Thursday at the team facility, cementing his return for the 2015 season.
ESPN first reported the incentive breakdown.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday's edition of NFL Total Access that Manning's restructured deal will have no effect on the Broncos' status with other free agents. More specifically, the Broncos are not in a better position to retain tight end Julius Thomas, who is expected to be heavily pursued on the open market.
