All 32 NFL teams were represented Friday at West Virginia's pro day. A lot of coaches were on hand, including wide receivers coaches, offensive line coaches and one running backs coach.
The pro day was held indoors on FieldTurf and 14 players worked out.
Wide receiver Kevin White (6-foot-2 3/4, 214 pounds) stood on his testing numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine, but did participate in drills and had an outstanding workout. He was worked out by Chicago Bears wide receivers coach Mike Groh. The scouts in attendance wanted to see more from White, so they had White do some additional work after his 15-minute session with Groh.
Wide receiver Mario Alford (5-8 3/4, 178) ran the 40-yard dash 4.32 and 4.27 seconds. He worked out and caught the ball well, making good adjustments to the ball. He will probably be drafted in the late rounds or land with a team as a priority free agent.
Offensive lineman Mark Glowinski (6-4 5/8, 305) ran the 40 in 5.10 and 5.16 seconds. He had a 31-inch vertical. He looked really good in drills. The only negative for him is he needs to get stronger.
Offensive lineman Quinton Spain (6-4 1/8, 330) ran the 40 in 5.04 and 5.02 seconds, which are really impressive times for someone his size. He had a 29-inch vertical and a 8-foot-7 broad jump. Spain performed 28 strength lifts. He looked really good in his workout. He has a little trouble with change of direction and is OK pulling. He'll be one of those sixth- or seventh-round picks.
Linebacker Shaq Riddick (6-5 7/8, 244) transferred to West Virginia from Gardner-Webb before last season. He spent four seasons with Gardner-Webb, but was eligible to play for the Mountaineers because he had graduated. He ran the 40 in 4.65 and 4.67 seconds. He had a 36-inch vertical and 10-4 broad jump. He ran the short shuttle in 4.28 seconds and had a three-cone drill time of 6.80 seconds. He also put up 19 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. His best position will probably be as a pass rusher with his hand on the ground. He was worked out as a linebacker and also as a defensive end, but he probably has a better chance of being a pass rusher than a guy who also drops into coverage at the next level.
Running back Dreamius Smith (5-10 5/8, 223) had a 35-inch vertical and 10-4 broad jump. He ran the 40 in 4.50 and 4.52 seconds. He recorded a short shuttle time of 4.16 seconds and finished the three-cone drill in 6.87 seconds. He caught the ball well during the workout, too.
The consensus from scouts who attended was that it's a great pleasure to go to West Virginia for its pro day because everything is so well organized.
