Indiana pro day: DL Bobby Richardson could be tried as OL

There were 23 NFL teams present for Indiana's pro day last Monday. Eight players, plus a handful of players from small schools in the area, worked out indoors on FieldTurf.

One player from the combine worked out -- Bobby Richardson (6-foot-2 3/4, 294 pounds). Richardson ran a 4.99 and 5.01 in the 40. He had a 31 1/2-inch vertical and a 9-2 broad jump. And he threw the bar up 21 times.

Richardson is a defensive lineman, and he looked good in defensive line drills, but I think he has the dimensions of a player who could move over to play offensive lineman. He's got long arms (33 1/4 inches) and big hands (11 1/8 inches), which are good reasons to at least try him out on offense.

Shane Wynn (5-foot-6, 167 pounds), a wide receiver, ran a 4.30 and 4.37 in the 40, including a 1.49 10-yard split. He had a 36-inch vertical and a 10-foot broad jump. He ran a 4.25 short shuttle and 6.89 3-cone drill. And he did 13 strength lifts.

Wynn is a small receiver and will probably be a free agent, but he's somebody who, because of his speed, will be brought into camp. He can fly.

Tim Bennett (5-foot-9 3/4, 185 pounds) ran a 4.57 and 4.59 in the 40. He had a 36 1/2-inch vertical and a 10-10 broad jump. He had a 4.29 short shuttle and 6.91 3-cone drill. And he had 14 strength lifts. Bennett led the nation in passes defended last season, and he's got pretty good quickness. The thing that might hurt him is that he lacks the all-out speed to play cornerback in the NFL. He's got all the measurables except speed, though, and should be a free agent.

Matt Dooley (6-foot-4, 242 pounds) is a long snapper, and a good one, but unfortunately, he ran a 5.42 and 5.34 in the 40. He also had a 29-inch vertical, an 8-11 broad jump, a 4.90 short shuttle, a 7.56 3-cone drill, and he had 14 strength lifts. Dooley would be a draft choice if he ran a little faster. He can really snap the ball with velocity and accuracy, but can't run on coverage teams.

The Hoosiers' top prospect, running back Tevin Coleman, will have a full workout April 15.
