It's widely expected the Pittsburgh Steelers will invest the No. 22 overall pick in the NFL draft in a pass rusher or a cornerback.
If it's the former, the eventual choice just might be at the club's facility Wednesday.
Virginia's Eli Harold, a potential late-first-round pick from Virginia, is in Pittsburgh to meet with team officials along with Utah pass rusher Nate Orchard, Ole Miss cornerback Senquez Golson, and Auburn tight end C.J. Uzomah, according to triblive.com. All six NFL Media analysts who have posted mock drafts project a pass rusher or a defensive back for Pittsburgh in the first round, though none have tabbed Harold himself.
Harold (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) made 14.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks last season for the Cavaliers. He ran a 4.60 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine and looked good at UVA's pro-day event.
If the Steelers bolster an aging secondary with their first pick, Orchard could be in play for Pittsburgh in a subsequent round. The NCAA leader in sacks per game last year (1.42), Orchard was impressive at the Senior Bowl in January.
Golson had an outstanding senior season at Ole Miss with an SEC-high 10 interceptions, but his size (5-9, 176) suggests he might be better suited to play nickelback rather than an outside cornerback position in the NFL. As for Uzomah, Pittsburgh could also use a young tight end behind Heath Miller.
According to the report, the four prospects are the first to make official pre-draft visits to the Steelers.
