Russell Wilson has said in the past that he hasn't ruled out a return to professional baseball. At what point should we take him seriously?
The Seahawks quarterback offered his latest eyebrow-raising comments to Bryant Gumbel in an interview that will air on the HBO series Real Sports.
"You never want to kill the dream of playing two sports," Wilson said, via The Seattle Times. "I would honestly play two sports."
The Baltimore Orioles selected Wilson out of high school in 2007, but Wilson opted to go to N.C. State instead. The Colorado Rockies invested a fourth-round draft pick in Wilson three years later, and he spent two seasons as a middling second baseman in their minor league system before turning his attention to football.
The Texas Rangers then selected Wilson in the Rule 5 Draft in December 2013. Wilson has made a cameo at the team's spring training facility the past two years. He stepped in the batting cage earlier this month and went deep.
Gumbel asked Wilson what's stopping him from once again pursuing a career in Major League Baseball.
"I don't know," he replied. "I may push the envelope a little bit one of these days."
It's hardly time for panic amongst the 12s, though it's fairly evident Wilson has the itch to give baseball another shot. Could that be part of the conversation as Wilson and the Seahawkscontinue negotiations on what should become one of the biggest contract extensions in NFL history?
