The new Oakland Raiders coaching staff disagrees with the old coaching staff on which position best suits Taiwan Jones.
The team's official website noted on Tuesday that the 26-year-old will move back to running back.
Jones was drafted as a running back in the fourth round of the 2011 draft. After two seasons at the position as a reserve -- carrying the ball just 22 times -- Dennis Allen moved him to cornerback. The speedster never quite adjusted to the switch and remained at the bottom of the depth chart last season.
However, Jones became a special teams stalwart, which earned him a contract extension last year.
Jack Del Rio's staff decided keeping Jones as a project on defense wasn't worth it and moved him back to the offensive side of the ball. Jones will remain behind Latavius Murray, Roy Helu Jr., Trent Richardson and Marcel Reece in the backfield, while focusing on special teams.
Still, given his speed, it's likely the Raiders' staff viewed any value Jones has as an offensive player greater than his odds of climbing the depth chart in the defensive backfield.
