The New England Patriots don't have to worry about first-round draft pick Malcom Brown's confidence in filling the void left by five-time Pro Bowl selection and franchise icon Vince Wilfork.
Asked if he had a message for Patriots fans, the former University of Texas defensive tackle replied Thursday night, via CSN New England's Phil Perry, "Ya'll about to get the best player ya'll have ever drafted so just be ready for when I touch the field."
The Patriots, of course, famously drafted the greatest quarterbackin NFL history with pick No. 199 in the 2000 NFL Draft.
While Brown's statement comes off as flippant bordering on disrespectful, Tom Brady issued a similar proclamation to owner Robert Kraft a decade and a half ago.
"I'm the best decision this organization has ever made," Brady said, via CSN New England.
After watching Brady capture four Lombardi Trophies and three Super Bowl MVP awards, we now know that his prediction was uncannily prescient. For a sixth-round afterthought, though, that vow had to have seemed brash at the time.
The Patriots will be satisfied if Brown comes close to replicating the success of Wilfork's career, if not Brady's.
