Chip Kelly: Tim Tebow isn't just a camp arm

Chip Kelly doesn't agree with Mark Sanchez's assessment of the Tim Tebow signing.

After the Philadelphia Eagles added Tebow last month, Sanchez essentially called Tebow a camp arm the team needed while Sam Bradford healed from ACL surgery.

During an interview with NFL Network on Saturday, Kelly denied that logic was the reason for signing the quarterback.

"No, I think everybody here that we bring to our organization is here to compete for a job," he said. "That's what Timmy is going to do. He's an unbelievable competitor. ... If we were just going to have guys throw drills, we'd take (Mike) Mayock in the offseason and bring him down here and let him throw to them."

Kelly's jocular explanation makes sense given that Tebow has been one of the worst practice quarterbacks in the NFL.

Perhaps Tebow has improved his mechanics enough to warrant a longer look by the Eagles. Perhaps Kelly has designs on using Tebow as a two-point specialist. Or perhaps once it comes time to cut players, Tebow will again find himself back working at a television network.
