The Green Bay Packers have put a ring on the finger of quarterback Brett Hundley.
The team on Thursday signed their fifth-round pick out of UCLA, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday. The Milwaukee Journal Setinal first reported the news.
It might be years before we hear from Hundley again. Bottom line, it would be an upset if he starts even one game in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers on the roster.
Hundley will step into the quarterback room to compete for pecking order with Scott Tolzien and Matt Blanchard. The team has always liked Tolzien, though, so Hundley is no guarantee to land the No. 2 gig.
"I wouldn't say he's completely developmental,"Packers director of player personnel Eliot Wolf said of Hundley after the draft. "He's played at a big-time program. Their offense is obviously different from ours, but you can see all the big-time throws that he can make."
The team was impressed with Hundley's football smarts, with Wolf calling him a "football nerd." He'll remain a student for years to come, but he'll learn behind one of the best in Rodgers.
