There will be no holdout this year for the New York Jets.
Muhammad Wilkerson showed up to the first day of Gang Green's minicamp on Tuesday.
The defensive lineman has pushed for a new contract since last year and has stayed away from the facility throughout the voluntary portion of OTAs this offseason.
Last week Wilkerson wavered on whether he'd attend mandatory minicamp -- though that was mostly viewed at the time as one last-ditch threat to perhaps coax the Jets to cave on his contract wishes.
In the end, Wilkerson wasn't willing to pay the fines -- up to $60,000 -- in order to draw a line in the sand.
Wilkerson said he's hopeful and confident that a long-term deal with the Jets will eventually get done, per Kimberly A. Martin of Newsday. The Jets' star defender also told reporters on Tuesday that he was "frustrated" about the situation and if he has to play through his current contract "so be it."
Entering the final year of his rookie deal, Wilkerson wants to be rewarded for being one of the top defensive lineman in the NFL. Unfortunately for the 25-year-old defender he has seen his leverage decrease. With first-round pick Leonard Williams now in the fold, Wilkerson's future is even more tenuous.
Wilkerson is scheduled to make $6.97 million this year, which could very well be his last in New York.
In the meantime, now that the full defensive line rotation will be together for the first time this year, it will be intriguing to see how Todd Bowles envisions deploying a group saturated with talent.
