Evan Mathis got his wish when he was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles late last week.
Now we wait to see if he gets the contract he wanted after bristling about playing for the $5.5 million he was set to earn from Philly.
Mathis' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told WQAM radio last week that "at least a half a dozen" teams have reached out about the guard, but declined to name any of them.
"Now it's wide open and there's a lot of interest in Evan," Rosenhaus said. "Between now and the start of training camp I definitely expect him to have a new home. I think we'll be methodical. We won't necessarily rush into signing immediately.
"Clearly Evan is one of, if not the top overall free agent right now that would be available in the NFL."
Pro Bowl guards don't generally hit the open market in mid-June, so it will be interesting to see what sort of contract Mathis earns.
Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan admitted his team is looking into the possibility of bringing Mathis to town.
"I think he's a good football player; there's no doubt," Ryan said at a charity softball game Saturday evening, via ESPN. "We'll do our due diligence, so to speak, but I'm pretty happy with our guards."
The Bills are one of several teams that could use help along the offensive line, which is what Rosenhaus hopes will increase his clients value as training camp approaches.
