Percy Harvin is tired of being considered just a slot receiver.
"Aside from the first two years I got in the league, I've been just a gadget guy," said Harvin to the Bills team website Friday. "I've been dying to just sit down with that one coach who will tell me what I'm doing wrong and what I need to do."
Lucky for Harvin, he says he found that coach in Sanjay Lal.
"I fell in love with Sanjay (Lal) as a coach," Harvin continued. "His ability to get me to process things so quickly ... going into the second or third game, I felt like I had been playing outside for years ... That was all a part of my big decision to come here."
Harvin's had a rough go of it as of late. Half a year removed from winning a Super Bowl in Seattle, he was traded to New York last season where he put up average numbers (29 rec, 350 yds, 1 TD) in eight games despite being the most talented wide receiver on the roster. The Bills will be Harvin's fourth team in as many seasons.
But there's a new sense of optimism everywhere you look in Western New York, and like many Bills fans, Harvin is buying into the system.
"I feel that i'ts time for me to put it all together," Harvin said in April. "Everything here spells success for me. The world has yet to see me explode like I'm about to."
Harvin has a one-year deal with the Bills and is lining up in the most talented offense he's played in. If there was ever a time for the 26-year old journeyman to reinvent himself and stretch his game outside the numbers, that time is now.
