Music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs will not face felony charges stemming from an altercation at the UCLA football facility with Bruins strength coach Sal Alosi and members of the UCLA football staff.
Combs reportedly took exception to Alosi's treatment of his son, Justin Combs, a reserve defensive back for the Bruins, during a workout on June 22. UCLA police took Combs into custody on a variety of charges after he allegedly attacked Alosi and waved a kettlebell weight at others in the gym. Sources told the Los Angeles Times, however, that the absence of a serious injury was among the factors in felony charges not being pursued.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office told The Times that the case was turned over to the L.A. city attorney to determine whether misdemeanor charges should be brought against Combs. At the time of the incident, Combs was arrested for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon, making terrorist threats and battery.
"We are thankful that the district attorney rejected felony charges in this matter," said Mark Geragos, Combs' attorney. "This case never should have been part of the criminal justice system to begin with."
Another of Combs' representatives said Combs was acting in defense of himself and his son during the altercation.
