Florida State announced Friday that running back Dalvin Cook is suspended indefinitely after a woman accused him of punching her in the face several times outside a Tallahassee, Fla., bar on June 23.
FSU revealed its decision Friday after the state attorney issued an arrest warrant for Cook on a misdemeanor battery charge.
State attorney Willie Meggs interviewed the accuser and Cook before issuing the charge, according to The Associated Press. Meggs told ESPN he met with the accuser and a female witness on Friday. Meggs also told ESPN the accuser provided him with photographs of her injuries.
"I found the women to be very credible," Meggs said.
The accuser told ESPN that she suffered a split lip and a sore nose, and identified Cook in a photo lineup with Tallahassee Police Department investigators on July 1. She said she was approached outside the bar by a man who was not Cook, who asked for her phone number, which she refused to provide.
"I told him I had a boyfriend and wasn't interested," the woman told ESPN. " ... They kept telling me they were football players. They kept telling me to Google them. They told me they were football players and they could buy me in two years."
The woman told ESPN the argument escalated and that Cook then punched her in the face several times.
According to the report, the woman is 21 years old, and the incident occurred June 23 outside of Clyde's and Costello's bar in Tallahassee. That was only one day before former FSU quarterback De'Andre Johnson was involved in an incident at Yianni's bar in Tallahassee, when he allegedly punched a woman. Johnson was dismissed from the football team on Monday.
Meggs' office on Monday released a surveillance video clip taken at Yianni's, which showed the altercation involving Johnson.
FSU coach Jimbo Fisher released a statement that referred to both incidents, which read in part:
"It is important to me that our fans and the public be aware that I do not tolerate this type of behavior that was captured on video and that was most recently alleged. We spend a good deal of time educating our student-athletes about appropriate behavior and their responsibilities as representatives of Florida State. The majority of our players are exemplary, but clearly we must place an even stronger emphasis on this, and I personally promise we will."
School president John Thrasher issued a statement as well, saying he has told Fisher to immediately meet with the team and reiterate behavioral expectations.
As a freshman last year, Cook rushed for 1,008 yards on 170 carries for the ACC champion Seminoles, including performances of 144, 177 and 103 yards at the end of the year against Florida, Georgia Tech and Oregon.
