The Pittsburgh Steelers took care of business with their head coach this week. Now they've done the same for their general manager.
The team announced Saturday that GM Kevin Colbert has signed a contract extension that will take him through the 2018 NFL Draft. Financial terms of the contract extension were not disclosed.
The announcement comes two days after Steelers coach Mike Tomlin signed an extension that made him one of the highest paid coaches in professional sports.
"I am happy to announce that we have extended Kevin Colbert's contract for two additional years," said team president Art Rooney II. "Kevin's work and footprint on our football operations have been a key factor in our success. We are excited Kevin will continue to lead our personnel department for at least the next three years."
As the Steelers open their training camp on Saturday, Colbert begins his fifth season as the team's general manager. He's been with the organization since 2000, a span of 16 years that's seen nine playoff berths and two Super Bowl titles.
Consider this another example of effective management by one the NFL's most stable franchises. Locking up the coach and general manager -- in the same week, no less -- sends a message to the entire organization. The Steelers are in good hands and they know it.
