Trent Richardson's tenure in Oakland may be over before it even really begins.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the chances that Richardson makes the Raiders' Week 1 roster are "about 50-50."
"The reality is (Richardson) has some very real competition, thanks to some newfound depth on this roster," Rapoport added. "He needs to do exactly what they ask on the field and off the field just to make this roster. ... It's possible at this point that Trent Richardson is the odd man out."
After three underwhelming seasons bouncing around Cleveland and Indianapolis, Richardson signed a surprising two-year deal in Oakland with $600,000 in guaranteed money in March. Now it's possible that's all the former third overall pick is going to take away from the Bay.
Richardson is currently on the non-football injury (NFI) list and will have to battle Latavius Murray, Roy Helu and Michael Dyer for a spot on the Raiders' depth chart. Running back in Oakland is a crowded position nowadays, and there may not be room for a 24-year-old with a career rushing average of 3.3 yards per carry.
