After being placed on the pre-draft trade block, inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks acknowledged in June that he might not be on the Philadelphia Eagles' roster by the start of the season.
When cornerback Brandon Boykinwas traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers over the weekend, it was natural to wonder if Kendricks might be the next Eagles player to be sent packing.
Coach Chip Kelly shot down that speculation -- with gusto -- on Sunday.
"Mychal Kendricks is not going anywhere, I can tell you that right now," Kelly said, via CSN Philly. "You can write that down in ink, not pencil. He's not going anywhere."
Kendricks and Boykin are both members of the 2012 draft class, the last of the pre-Kelly era in Philadelphia. Now that the Eagles have Kiko Alonso to go with defensive leader DeMeco Ryans at inside linebacker, Kendricks' 2015 role is up in the air.
Still just 24 years old, Kendricks is coming off his best season, having emerged as an elite coverage linebacker.
At 5-foot-11 and less than 240 pounds, though, he might not fit Kelly's rigid physical requirements for nucleus players.
