Chicago Bears coach John Fox attempted to downplayKevin White's shin injury following Wednesday's practice.
But according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, the concern about the stud rookie receiver is very real.
"He hasn't done any running on hard ground," Rapoport said of White during NFL Network's Inside Training Camp. "(He) has done all his work in a whirlpool as he tries to recover from these shin splints. So he's on PUP (physically unable to perform) now. From my understanding he may not be back anytime soon. Actually, a real chance right now that he will not be ready, will remain on PUP list when the season starts."
If White starts the season on the PUP list he'd miss the first six regular season games. Rapoport also reported White will start running next week.
"The key for the Bears is when he is ready to play he's the full force that they wanted him to be when they drafted him in the top 10," Rapoport said. "They want to make sure he's absolutely ready, so they will be cautious with him."
The No. 7 overall pick was selected to be Alshon Jeffery's running mate after the Bears traded Brandon Marshall in the offseason. Eddie Royal and Marquess Wilson will carry that banner until the rookie gets healthy and up to speed.
