Everyone around the Buffalo Bills has insisted that veteran running back Fred Jackson's roster spot is safe despite the team's depth at the position. That faith in Jackson could be tested this month.
Bills coach Rex Ryan announced Friday that Jackson would miss a couple of weeks of practice with a hamstring injury. Hamstring injuries are notoriously tricky to recover from, especially ones that are serious enough to force a player out of action for weeks. The Bills have Bryce Brown and Boobie Dixon behind LeSean McCoy at running back, although Jackson had been taking the No. 2 team reps in camp thus far.
Jackson will want to get back on the field and show he's ready for the season opener to ensure his roster spot.

- NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport says there is "some hope" Arian Fosterwill recover from his groin surgery in less than three months. If Foster goes on short-term injured reserve, he will miss the first eight games of the season.
- St. Louis Rams rookie Todd Gurley is unlikely to play in the preseason, Jeff Fisher told NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano on Inside Training Camp Live on Friday. Fisher noted that he doesn't need to see Gurley play in the preseason to play him in the regular season. But it's safe to say Gurley isn't going to be getting 20 carries-per-game out of the gate.
- Indianapolis Colts guard Ben Heenan will be sidelined four to six weeks with a torn meniscus, according to Fox59 in Indianapolis.
- The New York Jets secondary took a few big hits. They waived/injured safety Antonio Allen after tearing his Achilles tendon. Allen started eight games for the Jets last year and was a versatile backup. The Jets also announced that cornerback Dee Millineris out 6-8 weeks following wrist surgery.
- New Orleans Saints tight end Josh Hill has been out for a week of Saints camp. His offseason buzz is diminishing in camp as Ben Watson takes hold of the team's starting job.
- Lions tight end Joseph Fauria (knee) is sitting out practice Friday.
- Falcons running backs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Colemanwill miss a minimum of two weeks with hamstring injuries, according to ESPN.
- Jets defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson had an MRI on his hamstring, according to coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said the hamstring was just tight.
