The Philadelphia Eagles suddenly might be harboring second thoughts about their recent decision to trade cornerback Brandon Boykin.
Sixth-round rookie JaCorey Shepherd, one of the players expected to fill Boykin's void in the slot, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Sunday's practice, the Eagles announced Monday. Shepherd was diagnosed after undergoing an MRI.
Shepherd suffered the injury in a sideline collision with running back Darren Sproles.
With Shepherd out, the Eagles will go with 2014 fourth-round pick Jaylen Watkins at nickel cornerback.
Watkins got the nickel reps ahead of Shepherd on Sunday. He told reporters the plan was to rotate reps with Shepherd prior to the injury.
Although the addition of No. 1 cornerback Byron Maxwell has the Eagles excited, depth is quickly becoming a concern in Chip Kelly's secondary.
