Buffalo Bills claim IK Enemkpali off waivers

Rex Ryan has stated he wants to build a bully in Buffalo. Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised he's going to give linebacker IK Enemkpali a second chance in the NFL.

The Bills claimed Enemkpali off waivers Wednesday, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, according to a source informed of the situation. The team later confirmed Enemkpali's addition to the roster.

The news ends a dizzying 30 hours that started with Enemkpali breaking the jaw of New York Jets starting quarterback Geno Smith. The Jets had no choice but to release Enemkpali on Tuesday, and perhaps Ryan felt like he had no other choice but to complete the circle by signing his ex-player.

Perhaps the news shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Ryan knows Enemkpali well after coaching him in the 2014, and certainly doesn't shy away from headlines. The Bills also signed Richie Incognito and Percy Harvin this offseason, both of whom have had issues with teammates. Ryan also has to enjoy tweaking the team that just fired him.

Enemkpali will be far from guaranteed to make the Bills' roster, but that was also true with the Jets. He will be guaranteed to many more interview requests in Buffalo than he did in New York when he was an unknown special teamer.

Update: Enemkpali arrived at the Bills facility and spoke to the media Thursday.

"I'm just very grateful for Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills organization for giving me the opportunity to further my career here in 2015. I'm very grateful and thankful and happy to be a Bill," Enemkpali said. "I look forward to being a good teammate, an accountable player and an accountable teammate to this organization. I'm just happy to be here and I'm thankful."
