Bill Snyder is where any discussion of the face of Kansas State football begins and ends.
But among other notable Wildcats, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson is now as visible as anyone.
The Nelson Family Locker Room in Kansas State's new football building was so named after a donation from Nelson to the school, per The Kansas City Star. A $15 million facility upgrade is pending that would connect Bill Snyder Family Stadium with the Vanier Football Complex.
"Kansas State University and K-State Football have meant so much to our family and continue to be a big part of our lives," Nelson and his wife, Emily, said in a statement. "The Manhattan and Riley County communities are home for us, and giving back to the program and university that have afforded us the opportunities that we now have was very important to us, so that student-athletes, fans and the entire K-State Family can continue to have the success they deserve."
A signature mark of Snyder's coaching career has been his walk-on program, which is highly regarded among his coaching peers. Nelson was himself a Kansas State walk-on under Snyder to begin his college career. In 2007, he caught 122 passes for 1,606 yards in his final year as a Wildcat.
"Jordy has never strayed from his value system and thus remains the same caring, committed, loyal, passionate Kansas State person who believes in his program and is giving back," Snyder, the team's longtime coach, said in a statement. "They are a wonderful family."
Nelson has caught 400 passes for 49 touchdowns over his first seven NFL seasons and was selected to the Pro Bowl last season.
